Corda Arena is redefining live entertainment by connecting audiences around the world through immersive live streaming and virtual reality. Located in Hasselt, Belgium, the next-generation venue combines physical and digital experiences to bring audiences closer to live sports, esports, entertainment, and events.
Together with Dolby OptiView and other technology partners, HISPlayer enables immersive video playback inside the Corda Arena VR experience, bringing live 180° video, 4K quality, multi-camera viewing, and VOD directly to Meta Quest headsets.
Bringing Live Events Into VR
Corda Arena wanted to go beyond traditional live streaming. Instead of simply watching an event on a screen, audiences can enter a virtual version of the arena and experience the event from inside the venue. Using Meta Quest headsets, viewers can watch live 180° video from different camera positions, choose their preferred perspective, and interact with other viewers through proximity-based voice chat.
HISPlayer’s Unreal Engine Video Player integrates Dolby OptiView’s live and VOD streams directly into the immersive VR application.
Multi-Camera Streaming With Ultra-Low Latency
Dolby OptiView delivers multiple camera feeds from the venue using WebRTC, enabling low-latency live streaming and multiple viewing perspectives. The production workflow uses dedicated on-premises encoding to preserve the quality of the venue’s 4K camera feeds before delivery to Dolby OptiView.
HISPlayer brings these streams into the Meta Quest experience, delivering high-quality 180° video with approximately one second of latency.
A Complete Immersive Streaming Experience
The experience combines Dolby OptiView’s streaming infrastructure, HISPlayer’s high-performance video playback, and Prismax’s virtual environment.
Dolby OptiView provides live and on-demand streaming, multi-camera delivery, WebRTC, and encoding infrastructure.
HISPlayer provides the video playback layer inside the Unreal Engine VR application, enabling Dolby OptiView’s live and VOD content to be experienced directly in Meta Quest.
Prismax creates the virtual arena, avatars, and proximity-based voice communication, allowing remote audiences to experience events together.
The result is a new way to experience live entertainment, transforming live streaming from something audiences watch into an immersive environment they can enter.
The Results
Corda Arena demonstrates how live events can extend beyond the physical venue. Audiences can experience live 180° video in 4K, switch between camera perspectives, interact with other viewers, and continue watching content in VOD through ArenaStreams. By combining Dolby OptiView’s advanced streaming infrastructure with HISPlayer’s Unreal Engine video playback, Corda Arena brings high-quality, low-latency live content into an immersive VR environment.
