UE Video Player with Widevine Level 1 DRM Support on Meta Quest
Widevine Level 1 DRM for Meta Quest in Unreal Engine
Content protection is mandatory for distributing premium video content across OTT and immersive entertainment platforms. It has been widely applied in the form of Digital Rights Management (DRM) in the OTT industry to ensure secure playback. Google Widevine is the most widely adopted DRM solution globally, and Widevine Level 1 (L1) is the highest level of content protection secured by Widevine technology.
We’ve partnered with Google Widevine and Meta to support Widevine DRM Level 1 protected content on Meta Quest inside our Unreal Engine Video Player. Currently, our solution is the only Unreal Engine Video Player capable of playing Widevine L1-protected content on Meta Quest. Now with this bespoke UE Player, developers and content providers can securely stream up to 8K video content on Meta Quest with the highest level of content protection. Our Unreal Player SDK supports both live and VOD, in HLS and DASH formats.

What is Widevine L1 DRM?
Widevine security L1 is the most secure level of protection that Google Widevine offers. It ensures that content, particularly premium HD or 8K UHD video, is decrypted and processed entirely within the hardware’s secure area (TEE). This prevents unauthorized copying or hacking, providing the highest level of content protection. Moreover, Widevine is one of the most widely adopted DRM systems, used by major content owners and streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, NBCUniversal, and Amazon Prime Video.
